Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Budget” was a betrayal of everything our country stands for.
The budget slashed support working families, who are the backbone of Pennsylvania, and care for the poor, the sick, and the vulnerable to make the rich richer.
The budget reduced federal SNAP funding by 50%, and instituted brutal work requirements for SNAP recipients to meet.
Thousands of low-wage earners will be forced off the rolls because they will have difficulties finding consistent work hours or don’t have the internet access, they needed to submit work proofs or had paperwork issues.
We know this because this is what happened in Arkansas when they implemented work requirements for Medicaid recipients.
Over the next year, this cruel legislation will likely result in more than 144,000 individual Pennsylvanians losing 100% of their SNAP benefits.
In our district, it is expect that 1,080 people will lose SNAP benefits
I’ve heard from churches and food banks that they cannot keep up with growing food insecurity in PA.
They are currently serving more than 2.1 million individuals each month.
And, those additional Pennsylvanians who will lose access to SNAP benefits in the coming year will only add to the unrelenting demand.
Cuts to SNAP are also going to have a devastating impact on our economy.
In December 2024, SNAP provided $366,850,460 in federally funded food assistance benefits that support grocers, food retailers, and Pennsylvania’s agricultural industry.
These critical industries are all going to be hit hard!
The Commonwealth doesn’t have the funds to plug the $500 million hole left by the Trump federal budget.
We’ve got to come together and tell Senator Scott Martin and the other members of the Republican-controlled state Senate they have got to step up to help their fellow Pennsylvanians.
