State Budget, Transit Funding Remain in the Balance

As you know, Pennsylvania has yet to reach an agreement on this year’s state budget or on funding for mass transit across the state. These impasses create uncertainty for families, schools, commuters, small business owners and community services that depend on timely state funding.

The budget is more than just numbers to agree on – it reflects our shared priorities. It determines how we fund public education, support health and human services, invest in infrastructure, protect our environment and grow our economy. When a budget is delayed, school districts, county governments and local organizations are forced to operate without the resources they need to provide critical services.

I am working with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to find common ground and deliver a budget that is responsible, balanced and fair to all Pennsylvanians. While negotiations can be difficult, I remain committed to ensuring that the final budget strengthens our schools, supports working families and invests in the future of our communities.

I will continue to keep you informed as the process moves forward. In the meantime, please know that my office is here to help you with any state-related concerns or services you might need.

Be Prepared for Changes to SNAP

Beginning Sept. 1, more than 230,000 SNAP recipients in Pennsylvania will be newly subject to burdensome work requirements to maintain their benefits. Under the federal changes, SNAP recipients who do not comply will be limited to receiving three months of SNAP in a three-year period. Pennsylvania’s Department of Human Services estimates that about 144,000 Pennsylvanians will lose their SNAP once work requirements go into effect. My goal is to minimize the impact of these changes and reverse course in Pennsylvania.

A webpage explaining the new requirements and how to keep your benefits is available here: Work Requirements Are Coming for Many People on SNAP. Take Action to Keep Your Benefits!

In the meantime, you can contact Pennsylvania’s U.S. Senator Dave McCormick and demand that the federal government reverse these harmful cuts.
