Schlossberg welcomes traffic safety grant for Upper Macungie Twp.

HARRISBURG, Feb. 26 – Drivers in Upper Macungie Township will see improved intersection signaling thanks to a $317,600 state grant, announced state Rep. Mike Schlossberg.

“I am thrilled to see these planned upgrades in Upper Macungie Township. Our region has seen tremendous growth, which brings traffic problems at key locations. These improvements will go a long way to make our roads safer,” said Schlossberg, D-Lehigh.

Upper Macungie Township will use its $317,600 grant to upgrade 13 intersections to camera or radar signal detections.

The local grant is one of 31 across the state that were announced today by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation through the Automated Red-Light Enforcement program. Grant funding is supplied by fines from red light violations at 38 intersections in Philadelphia.

Projects were selected by an eight-member committee based on criteria such as safety benefits and effectiveness, cost, and local and regional impact.
