Each year, Northampton County honors its centenarians—residents who have lived for 100 years or more—at a luncheon. This year, the event was postponed from October to November, and due to the rescheduling, several individuals who had planned to attend were unable to make the new date.
I have been scheduling one-on-one visits with those who had to miss the luncheon and present them with their citations from the House, Senate, and County Executive.
Last week, I had the pleasure of visiting Marilyn Achey, who celebrated her 100th birthday on July 10. Our visit was truly special—she shared stories about her life and family and jokingly said that I should be presenting the citation to “her genes,” since they were responsible for her longevity. I mentioned that I am friends with her sons, Brian and Wayne, and encouraged her to invite at least one of them to this year’s luncheon, which will be held on Oct. 1, 2026.

I was fortunate to speak at the 2026 Martin Luther King Jr. commemoration Monday at the Cathedral Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, in honor of Dr. King's legacy and his inspiring call to action.
