I came to Harrisburg to fight for programs that benefit people. As a member of the PAHouse Human Services Committee I was proud to stand with DHS workers and staff to commemorate 50 years of the Child Support Enforcement Program.

PA Senate, Fund Our Schools!
|
|
|
Last week, public school leaders from all over the commonwealth came to the state Capitol to rally for quality, fully funded public education for ALL our kids. I was particularly happy to cheer on Manheim Township’s own, Samantha McNally, who is a hugely impactful public education champion.
Since we haven’t passed a budget yet, our school districts don’t have the money to pay the bills. Call your PA state senator and tell them you want this budget passed now! Our kids our counting on us.

The Federal Budget—
A Stunning Act of Cruelty Against the American People
|
|
|
Recently, Trump signed into law the federal budget. Thanks to U.S. Senate budget cuts, it’s an even worse bill than it was when it was back in May.
Here’s what’s clear right now:
- 310,00 people in Pennsylvania will lose Medicaid. Even if you are not on Medicaid, this will impact you with longer waits for appointments at the doctors, failing or closed hospitals and more.
- 144,000 people in Pennsylvania will lose food assistance. Families will go hungry. Kids will starve.
- 25 rural hospitals are at risk of closing. People will die without close access to emergency care.
- Planned Parenthood has lost all Federal funding for basic health care like cancer screenings and STI testing and almost 200 health care centers could close across the country. Women will die; kids will be left without mothers.
These cuts are beyond cruel.
Some of the cuts made in this bill will not be immediate – they were intentionally designed to not go into effect until after the November 2026 midterm elections. BUT the tax cuts for the rich will go into effect immediately. The architects of this bill lied about what’s in it and who would be impacted, right up until the final vote.
As we dig into the bill, my colleagues and I in the state legislature are working hard to lessen some of the impact this bill will put on Pennsylvanians statewide, but we do not have the resources at the state level to backfill every budget cut. Some of our neighbors are going to lose the support programs that they depend on because of what happened at the federal level last week.
In the state House we are having a lot of conversations about how to negotiate a state budget in the face of these federal cuts. We await the Senate to engage in these discussions on the state budget.

Delivering for You in Harrisburg

Last week, my House colleagues and I passed important bills that will help our neighbors and improve our communities:
We're protecting consumers by requiring companies to provide notification before each automatic renewal, to be transparent about renewal terms, and to allow subscribers to cancel their subscription services exclusively online if they initially subscribed online (HB 1299).
We're protecting the safety of hotel workers by requiring hotel employers to provide devices that serve as “panic buttons” for employees working alone servicing guestrooms (HB 1358).
We're keeping campgrounds affordable by exempting privately-owned campgrounds from local amusement and admission taxes (HB 1424).
