Last week, I visited McCaskey High School’s Early Childhood Education Program. Ms. Johnson’s class of 11th and 12th graders and I talked about the great reasons to get into early childhood education, the credentials needed, the continuing education requirements, the pay, the benefits, the legislation surrounding pre-K education, and the impact that ONE SINGLE PERSON can have on another person’s life. I am inspired by this class of aspiring professionals! They are indeed the light of the future!

Better Understanding Challenges in Women's Health
|
|
|
In this Women’s Health Month, I encourage you to find out about the array of preventive health services that are available to you at no cost through your health insurance – preventive services like regular check-ups and annual or periodic screenings, pregnancy care, and other essential health services.
The Pennsylvania Insurance Department (PID), Department of Health (DOH), Department of Human Services (DHS), and Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP) have launched a new survey to identify challenges and questions women have about their health insurance.
Click the graphic above to access the survey. It will be open until July 7 and is available online in English, Spanish and Chinese. Your input will be used to inform the administration and the legislature of the barriers Pennsylvanians face with health care and how we can work together to improve maternal health initiatives and women’s health care.
The Pennsylvania Insurance Department urges Pennsylvanians who have insurance questions, or who wish to file a complaint, to visit pa.gov/consumer or 1-866-PA-COMPLAINT.

Government Programs
PTRR Deadline Dec. 31

|
The Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program has made it easier for older friends and neighbors to stay in their homes while affording groceries, medicine, and so much more. Also, don’t forget that thanks to changes made in 2023, income eligibility and rebate amounts have increased significantly!
The expansion:
- Increased the maximum standard rebate to $1,000.
- Increased the income cap for both homeowners and renters.
- Increased the income cap to grow with inflation each year moving forward.
The table below shows how much homeowners and renters who fit the eligibility criteria are eligible for, depending on their income in 2024:

So far this year, the Department of Revenue has received more than 424,000 PTRR applications. But there are still thousands of eligible applicants who have not yet submitted an application to take advantage of the program, which is delivering historic amounts of relief to Pennsylvanians.
Submitting your application online through myPATH — in English or Spanish — is easy and does not require you to sign up for an account. Filing online gives you instant confirmation that your claim has been successfully filed. Applicants also will have access to automatic calculators and other helpful features that are not available through the paper application.
My staff and I are here to assist with applications as well, so please don’t hesitate to stop by the district office.
