May is Teacher Appreciation Month

Our office has received several nominations for Teacher Appreciation Month. This week we will highlight the first nominations. Our first nomination shared the following message regarding their nominations:
Selecting a single teacher for this year's award has proven challenging. My family and I have been fortunate to receive love and support from many exceptional teachers in Manheim Township, and we believe their dedication deserves recognition.
Kamsi Odume, a third-grader at Bucher Elementary School, nominates the following teachers for Teachers Appreciation Day: Nancy Copper (Gifted Program), Mrs. Rychener (3rd Grade), Miss Wolfe (Substitute), Mr. Bransby (PE), and Mrs. Metzger (STEM).
Otito Odume, a seventh-grader at Manheim Township Middle School, nominates Mr. Clarke (Social Studies) and Mrs. Greener (Science).
Onyii Odume, a tenth-grader at Manheim Township High School, nominates Robin Shugarts (Geometry).
If you would like to nominate a teacher for Teacher Appreciation Month, please email us at RepRivera@pahouse.net.

Last week, I attended an incredibly informative bipartisan roundtable discussion at the State Correctional Institution in Coal Township. I heard from folks who are incarcerated describe their experiences, transformation, and the process of commutation (or lack thereof) for folks serving life sentences.
The staff, inmates, and education, psychology, and corrections subject matter experts at the roundtable truly enlightened me. And, my colleagues - both R and D – inspired me as well.
Check out my takeaways by clicking on the photo below.

Wepa! Lancaster welcomed the band @plenalibrepr Plena Libre from Carolina, Puerto Rico at the Ware Center on Saturday night, and there was AMAZING energy in the room! Yes, my father-in-law and I had to have a dance together!
Thank you, Millersville University, for hosting this fabulous event for our community!

It was great to connect with Lancaster’s Teamsters Local 771 at the PA Conference of Teamsters this week! RJ, Adam, and their team empower workers through high-quality apprenticeships, fair wages, safe working conditions, and equitable benefits.
There’s strength in numbers, for sure.

Last week, I attended PA CareerLink Lancaster County and the Lancaster County Workforce Development Board’s groundbreaking event — the first-ever on-site Birth Certificate Event in partnership with the PA Department of Vital Records and the Department of Labor & Industry!
This innovative event made it easier than ever for community members to access a vital document that opens doors to employment, education, and essential services.

Are You Ready for REAL ID?
|
|
|
Beginning Wednesday, May 7, Pennsylvanians will need a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license/photo ID card or another form of federal identification, such as a valid passport or military ID, to board a domestic commercial flight or enter a federal building or military installation that requires ID.
PennDOT will be holding several REAL ID Days in the area to help neighbors apply. Please click here to learn more about the dates and locations for these events. The locations with a star next to them can process and issue REAL IDs all in one visit.
If you don’t have a REAL ID and aren’t planning to fly or visit a federal facility immediately after May 7, don’t worry! You will always be able to apply for a REAL ID, even after enforcement begins.
If you have any questions about REAL ID or need assistance with any state-related matter, please contact my office.

The Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program has made it easier for older friends and neighbors to stay in their homes while affording groceries, medicine, and so much more. Also, don’t forget that thanks to changes made in 2023, income eligibility and rebate amounts have increased significantly!
Please click here to apply by Monday, June 30. My staff and I are here to assist with applications as well, so stop by the district office.
