Safety Town Hall on Thursday

Please join us for an informative discussion at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 29, when the Community Partnership for Gun Safety and I will hold a Town Hall at the Stroudsburg Junior High School Auditorium to talk about the ways that we can make our communities safer. Monroe County established the CPGS to help address some of the concerns regarding firearm violence and mental health.

Still time to claim your tax rebate

The application deadline for Pennsylvania’s Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program has been extended until Dec. 31, 2025.

Thanks to a historic expansion of the popular program that I voted for in the PA House of Representatives, more Pennsylvanians than ever – including older adults, widows/widowers and people with disabilities – are eligible for the rebates, with increased maximum payments of up to $1,000. In the last claim year, the program issued over 522,000 rebates totaling $319 million, including 106,000 first-time filers.

PennDOT quietly re-approves I-80 in secret
– without permits

Despite a formal request by me as the state representative for the area to be informed about the progress of I-80 expansion plans, PennDOT and the Federal Highway Administration quietly reaffirmed their 2020 Finding of No Significant Impact in September 2024 without public notice, without public meetings and without informing me, Stroudsburg Borough or the Monroe County Conservation District.

The decision was made despite a design that violates a 75-foot buffer requirement around a primary vernal pool in the construction path, required by the stormwater management plan adopted by Stroudsburg Borough, and less than adequate evaluations of the vernal pool in a half-hearted Environmental Assessment.

$2.5 million awarded to local projects

One of the enjoyable parts of my job as state representative is helping municipal officials work through the state grant process. In the end, I know that every dollar acquired from the state level is one less dollar that needs to come out of a local budget, thus saving local taxpayers money. Read here about the latest announcement of $2.57 million in grants for a variety of projects.

If you or your organization wants to apply for a grant, the state has a handy tool to help search for grants. Visit this page to search, or this page for a list of all the latest programs.
