Powell secures over $550,000 in grant funding

PITTSBURGH, Nov. 18 -- The Commonwealth Financing Authority has approved $558,041 in grant funding to projects championed by state Rep. Lindsay Powell, D-Allegheny.

“These projects will provide great support for so many in our community,” Powell said. “From support for unsheltered people to renovations for housing properties, this funding will make it so more people have the resources they need to thrive and stay healthy. I am proud to bring this money to our district for such important issues.”

The grants included in this award include:

  • $213,041 to the Shaler Area EMS to support the purchase of a new ambulance for the Shaler-Hampton area. Also supported by Rep. Arvind Venkat, D-Allegheny.
  • $180,000 to Light of Life Ministries to support upgrades to first floor dining, chapel, reception and women’s shelter, along with upgrades to acoustics, lighting and furnishing and the purchase of two vehicles to provide transportation for unsheltered people to shelter and services.
  • $75,000 to the Citrone Foundation for the purchase and deployment of a Sensory Inclusive/Accessible Activation Vehicle. Also supported by Rep. Aerion Abney, D-Allegheny.
  • $45,000 to the Tri-COG Land Bank for renovation of homeownership in Etna and Millvale, including the acquisition of one property and renovation of this and two additional properties.
  • $45,000 to the Senator John Heinz History Center to fund the replacement of windows on the second and seventh floors.

These grant awards come from the Gaming Economic Development Tourism Fund, with money for the fund coming from gaming revenue.
