O’Mara announces grant to improve traffic flow and safety in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Aug. 18 — State Rep. Jennifer O’Mara announced that traffic improvements are coming to Springfield thanks to a $295,634 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
The funding will provide for updated signal equipment at Sproul Road, at the intersection of Route 320 and the Giant/Staples shopping center. The grant comes from PennDOT’s Green Light-Go grant program, which is designed to improve the efficiency and operation of existing traffic signals located in Pennsylvania.
“Sproul Road is busy for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians, so ensuring its safety and efficiency is crucial for Springfield. Upgrading the traffic signals will enhance the roadway’s smooth and steady flow of people and commerce in this densely populated area,” O’Mara said. “Further, the Green Light-Go grant program shows how state government can work to improve every Pennsylvanian’s quality of life.”
This is one of four Delaware County projects to receive funding. Projects will be funded through the appropriation for fiscal year 2023-24. Grant funding through the Green Light-Go program may be utilized for a range of operational improvements including, but not limited to, light-emitting diode technology installation, traffic signal retiming, developing special event plans and monitoring traffic signals, as well as upgrading traffic signals to the latest technologies.
