Dear Neighbor,
Last week, the House passed Gov. Shapiro’s plan to send much-needed additional money to SEPTA and other public transit agencies—as well road and bridge projects across Pennsylvania. HB 1364 reallocates $300 million for mass transit statewide from existing state sales tax revenue and sets aside $500 million to repay new state bonds for road and bridge construction. This legislation does not create any new taxes and would also form the Transportation Funding Advisory Commission to produce a comprehensive, strategic funding proposal by January 1 of 2026. This is now the fourth time the PA House has passed legislation to help our mass transit funding crisis – the last three times saw no action by the Senate.
This funding helps everyone, not just SEPTA. Transit moves people in all 67 counties. It creates jobs and contracts throughout the entire Commonwealth. It keeps our roads from seeing more congestion and our commute times down. In our area, with the first round of proposed cuts alone, we will see 275,000 extra cars per day on the road. This critical legislation is now pending in the Senate, so please reach out to Senate leaders and demand action on HB 1364!

PECO outages: On my radar ??
Bad storms and high temperatures are a dangerous combination. Last week’s storms resulted in power outages for some area residents, and that meant the brutally high temperatures that followed this week were a particularly serious threat. I understand the timing of the storm and heat wave has been extremely difficult for impacted residents. As we’ve heard from residents, my staff has escalated situations to PECO and will continue to assist constituents who are still without power or lose power in future storms.
After hearing about the delay in power restoration, I reached out to PECO to get an update on the storm and their efforts. Due to the storm on June 19th which brought heavy rain and wind gusts up to nearly 60 mph, 327,000 PECO customers lost power. PECO brought in 2,600 additional staff from out of state in addition to their over 3,000 dedicated PECO employees. These crews came in from as far as Indiana, Illinois, and North Carolina. As of this Thursday, there are 7,790 customers in Delaware County without power that PECO is currently working towards restoring.
I will continue to remain in contact with PECO as they finish their restoration efforts and as the summer progresses. It’s critical that we make sure PECO can properly manage power outages in Delaware County, and that is an issue I will always be advocating for!

World IVF Day in Pennsylvania ??
Every year, over half a million babies are born thanks to in vitro fertilization, or IVF, which provides those with infertility issues a second chance at starting a family. I am proud that the House on Tuesday approved my resolution, HR 235, which named Wednesday, July 25, as “World IVF Day” in Pennsylvania.
While the IVF process is not without risks, access to IVF is vital for people and families who may not be able to conceive otherwise. One of those families includes my own. My husband and I were thrilled to welcome Katherine, our daughter, in 2022, which was only possible due to IVF. We are now eagerly looking forward to welcoming our second IVF child later this summer. My resolution helps recognize the positive impact that IVF and embryologists have had for those experiencing infertility.

Commonwealth agencies warn of scam targeting older Pennsylvanians ??
The Pennsylvania Insurance Department, Department of Aging, Department of Banking and Securities, State Police, and Attorney General’s Office are warning residents—especially seniors—about a new inheritance scam involving someone posing as a state employee.
The scam uses fake emails that mimic Commonwealth addresses to convince victims to send money in exchange for a fictitious overseas inheritance. One reported case saw an older Pennsylvanian lose money over nearly a year.
Officials urge residents to:
- Ignore unsolicited messages offering money or prizes.
- Verify suspicious emails (official state emails end in @pa.gov).
- Never share personal info or send money to unknown individuals.
- Report suspicious activity to state agencies or local law enforcement.
