Donahue helps secure $1.9 million in state grant funding

HARRISBURG, Dec. 18 – Grant funding of $1.92 million from the statewide Local Share Account will go to support infrastructure and recreational improvements in Lackawanna County, state Rep. Kyle Donahue announced today.

Local Share Account funds are used for projects in the public interest and that improve the quality of life of citizens in the community. Eligible projects must be owned and maintained by an eligible applicant or a nonprofit organization.

“These investments will strengthen our community in meaningful, long-lasting ways,” said Donahue. “By improving local infrastructure and expanding recreational opportunities, we’re helping to ensure that Lackawanna County remains a great place to live, work, and raise a family, while also supporting economic growth and quality of life for residents across the region. I am thankful to my colleagues, Rep. Bridget Kosierowski, Senator Marty Flynn and Senator Rosemary Brown for their help in acquiring this funding for our community.”

The total funds were distributed as below:

  • $200,000 to make roadway improvements to Center Street in Covington Township.
  • $160,000 to build an indoor batting cage facility at the Ashton Baseball Complex in Spring Brook Township for the North Pocono Little League.
  • $125,000 for the flushing and maintenance of the sanitary sewer system in Moscow Borough.
  • $62,000 for the purchase and upfitting of a new police patrol vehicle for use in Moscow Borough.
  • $60,000 for the paving of Spring Lane and Brook Lane in Spring Brook Township.
  • $264,321 for the purchase and installation of commercial kitchen equipment at the new Meals on Wheels building in Scranton.
  • $200,000 for the Capouse Avenue Sidewalk project in Scranton.
  • $183,425 for the purchase of four simulators to prepare nursing students with mimicked real patient responses for the University of Scranton.
  • $175,000 for the demolition and reconstruction of the Lackawanna Blind Association’s headquarters in Scranton.
  • $144,449 to replace the roof on the Everhart Museum in Scranton.
  • $125,000 for improvements to the North Scranton Little League’s batting cages.
  • $100,000 to replace and improve sidewalks adjacent to Saint Ann’s Passionist Monastery in West Scranton.
  • $66,449 to design and implement an educational program located in the Electric City Trolley Museum in Scranton.
  • 54,560 for improvements to the West Scranton Little League Field.
