Says Shapiro is keeping up with promises to deliver 1,200 new truck parking spaces by the end of 2026
Rep. Ed Neilson January 28, 2026 | 11:42 AM
State Rep. Ed Neilson, chair of the House Transportation Committee, praised Gov. Josh Shapiro for following through on his commitment to road and truck driver safety by adding 339 parking spaces for the high volume of freight traffic travelling throughout the commonwealth.
“The lack of safe spaces for truck drivers to park and complete rest requirements has been a longstanding issue in Pennsylvania and nationwide,” Neilson said. “With these additional parking spaces and even more to come, I’m thankful that the Shapiro administration recognized the issue and followed through on the commitment to solve it.”
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation-designated truck parking spots are being established on Interstate on ramps with no sight distance or safety concerns, weigh stations used for Pennsylvania State Police, motor carrier safety enforcement, and various other locations within highway right of way.
PennDOT and PSP staff collaborated closely to identify sites that can be designated quickly and cost-effectively. Spots are marked with truck-parking signage installed by PennDOT.
