Merski, Harkins: $2.65M secured to boost waterfront access, strengthen local infrastructure

ERIE, Jan. 20 – $2.65 million in funding from the Commonwealth Financing Authority will support four critical infrastructure and utility projects across Erie County, state Reps. Bob Merski and Pat Harkins, both D-Erie, announced today.

“Infrastructure investments are essential to public safety and economic vitality,” Merski said. “These awards will improve waterfront access, strengthen local roadways, and ensure reliable water and sewer service for our neighborhoods.”

Harkins added: “When we invest in projects that connect people and protect essential services, we’re investing in stronger communities. I’m pleased to see these funds put to work for Erie County residents.”

The approved funding includes:

$1.4 million to the Erie Western PA Port Authority for upgrades and an extension of the East Bluffs shared-use path, enhancing pedestrian and bicycle connectivity along the Erie waterfront.
$500,000 to Wesleyville Borough for Phase 2 reconstruction of Euclid Boulevard, including roadway, sidewalk, and bike-route improvements.
$500,000 to the Summit Township Water Authority for replacement of water infrastructure along Hershey Road.
$250,000 to the Harborcreek Township Sewer Authority for the Harborcreek Village project to advance local sewer and related improvements.

The grants were awarded through the Multimodal Transportation Fund and the Small Water and Sewer Fund, both administered by the CFA, which provides targeted support to promote economic development and maintain a safe, reliable transportation and infrastructure network for Pennsylvania residents.
