McNeill applauds legislation keeping PA youth safe from illicit vapor products

HARRISBURG, June 23 – State Rep. Jeanne McNeill applauded today’s passage of her electronic nicotine delivery system directory legislation by the House of Representatives.

This legislation would create a directory, similar to Pennsylvania’s widely effective Tobacco Product Directory, for vapor products.

“With our current system, Pennsylvania struggles to enforce legal marketing law of these vapor products, meaning that many retailers who in good faith have decided against selling vapor products that can’t be legally marketed in the United States are losing significant market share and revenues to those who do sell them,” McNeill said. “The directory created by this legislation would solve this by allowing the enforcement of penalties to retailers and wholesalers who sell unlisted nicotine products.”

If signed into law, enforcement of this law would be handled by the Department of Revenue, the Office of Attorney General, and state and local law enforcement.

Pennsylvania has been a leader in combatting youth access to vapor products by enacting legislation in 2019 to raise the minimum age to purchase vapor and tobacco products from 18 to 21.

H.B. 1425 now heads to the full Senate for consideration.
