McNeill announces funding program for law enforcement/corrections body cameras

State Rep. Jeanne McNeill, D-Lehigh, today announced a program that offers grants from $5,000 to $200,000 to purchase camera systems, data storage and to cover other costs related to implementing or expanding body-worn camera systems for law enforcement and corrections agencies in Pennsylvania.

“We’ve seen how important these cameras are to ensuring accurate documentation of exchanges between law enforcement and civilians, especially in the wake of the unjust death of George Floyd in Minnesota,” McNeill said. “And, while we as a legislature passed historic police reforms, which the governor signed into law, technology and tools are also a key piece to ensuring the public outcry for ‘equality, justice and accountability’ for those policing our neighborhoods is maintained.”

McNeill said regional police departments, municipal law enforcement agencies and counties implementing programs in county correctional facilities and sheriff’s departments may apply for the grant program.

There is a dollar-for-dollar, non-federal cash or in-kind match requirement for grant qualification, with an application deadline of Oct. 15.
