Rep. Jeanne McNeill July 16, 2020 | 11:24 AM
HARRISBURG, July 16 – State Rep. Jeanne McNeill, D-Lehigh, today announced that a $563,933 grant has been awarded to Catasauqua Borough from the Commonwealth Financing Authority. The borough will use the funding to construct new public streets and make improvements for pedestrian and bicyclists in and around the former Crane Iron Works brownfield site.
“I have been a strong advocate for this project because it is one that will enhance Catasauqua and the supporting communities,” McNeill said. “To see what was once considered environmentally scarred and ‘useless’ land now coming back offers such promise and hope for our region. There’s no doubt that this investment will improve our quality of life and serve as a source of pride for generations to come.”
McNeill explained the grant comes through the state’s Multimodal Transportation Fund, which encourages economic development and ensures safe and reliable transportation is available to Pennsylvania residents. The CFA provides funding for projects focused on development, water quality, energy infrastructure and more.
Act 89 of 2013 established the dedicated Multimodal Transportation Fund, which stabilizes funding for ports and rail freight, increases aviation investments, establishes dedicated funding for bicycle and pedestrian improvements, and allows targeted funding for priority investments in any mode.
