Insurance Committee holds hearing on my bill

The cost of insulin has tripled in recent years, placing a serious financial burden on the many people who rely on it to survive. I introduced a bill to cap the price of a 30-day supply of insulin at $35, ensuring this life-saving medication is more affordable and accessible to those who need it.

This week, the House Insurance Committee held a public hearing to examine this critical issue. I am hopeful the committee will approve the bill and advance it to the full House for consideration soon.

Getting to work on an encouraging budget plan

I was encouraged by Gov. Josh Shapiro’s 2026-2027 budget proposal unveiled this week. The plan emphasizes affordability, economic development, job growth, and education, while also reaffirming the governor’s support for raising the minimum wage and fully funding mass transit.

I look forward to working with my colleagues and the governor over the coming months to shape the budget and advocate for the priorities of the 133rd District. I’m confident we can develop a plan that strengthens our schools, supports working families, funds vital services, and grows our economy.

In case you missed it, read the governor’s speech here.

Girl Scout Strong!

Girl Scouts from across Pennsylvania visited the Capitol this week to meet and engage with women serving in state government. As a former Girl Scout myself, it was inspiring to see their curiosity about the legislative process, connect with these future leaders, and be part of Troop PA!

Skills USA competition

SkillsUSA competitors took over the Allentown Fairgrounds on Wednesday as 500 students celebrated SkillsUSA’s 40th anniversary by showcasing their talents. These students are studying a wide range of trades, from computer networking and diesel repair to baking and masonry. Congratulations to all the students who earned ribbons in their fields yesterday—next up, the state competition!

Bike giveaway brings happiness

Something truly special happened Thursday at Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit #21’s Transportation Center. Variety – the Children’s Charity of Pittsburgh gave away eight adaptive bikes to children and their families.

As Molly Crawford, Program Manager, shared at the event: “Bikes are about more than just mobility. They give families a chance to enjoy a fun activity together, and they allow a child to be part of what their friends are doing.”

Each bike is customized for its new owner, and the children even get to choose their favorite color. This is an incredible program that brings joy, independence, and inclusion to so many families.

Tax season reminder: tax credits for workers

With tax season underway, I want to make sure eligible residents know about new state tax credits that can put real money back into the pockets of working families.

Last year, I voted for the creation of the Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit as part of the state budget. Modeled after the federal Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), this new credit can provide up to $805 in tax relief for eligible workers.

If you qualify for the federal Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), you’ll automatically receive the Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit when you file both your federal and PA state tax returns online at the same time. This tax cut builds on the expansion of the Child and Dependent Care Enhancement Tax Credit, continuing our work to make like more affordable for Pennsylvania families.
