A budget has been passed

At long last, the state has a balanced, bipartisan budget. I voted for this plan because it pays our bills, supports every child in every school in Lehigh County, preserves vital services, prevents layoffs, and does not raise taxes.

  • This budget cuts your costs and makes it easier for you and your family to survive when the federal government is so unpredictable.
  • This budget makes sure Lehigh County, and our townships and boroughs, won’t be forced to lay off the hardworking people who keep us moving.
  • This budget increases school funding and makes sure those dollars go to kids in our community, so they have tools they need to learn and so that there is a childcare worker retainment and recruitment effort.
  • This budget ensures that we’re still meeting the court requirement for educational sufficiency.
  • This budget invests nearly $11 million more for the local area agencies on aging,
  • This budget gives people in crisis somewhere to turn.
  • This budget fixes roads & bridges, protects our air & water, and supports the local businesses that invest in you and our communities.

This budget creates jobs, invests in kids, protects seniors, and stands up for taxpayers like you today and in the future.

The latest on SNAP funding in Pennsylvania

Last week, following a federal court ruling that required the Trump administration to release 100% of November SNAP benefits nationwide, Governor Shapiro directed the expedited distribution of these benefits across the state.

This week, with the reopening of the federal government, the Trump administration released full benefits for most SNAP participants across the state.

If you receive SNAP, please check your EBT balance or get updates by calling the PA Department of Human Services at 1-877-395-8930, visiting the ConnectEBT app or reaching out to my office for help.

Open enrollment for Pennie health insurance

From now through January 15, Pennsylvanians can enroll in health coverage through Pennie, the state’s health insurance marketplace created through Obamacare. Unfortunately, Republicans in Congress have yet to agree to extend health care subsidies.  Consequently, we expect the cost of plans in our marketplace to go up significantly.

If you have questions or need help enrolling, visit Pennie.com/connect or call the Pennie Customer Service Center at 1-844-844-8040.

Apply for property tax or rent rebates

Pennsylvania's Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program helps older friends and neighbors stay in their homes while covering the cost of groceries, medicine, and other necessities. The program benefits eligible Pennsylvanians who are 65 or older, widows and widowers 50 or older, and people with disabilities 18 or older.

Rebates range from $380 to $1,000, and the application deadline has been extended to December 31. My staff is available to assist with applications, so please don’t hesitate to stop by my district office.

Call your utilities company

With the cold weather here, it is recommended that anyone concerned about paying winter heating bills contact their utility company. Rising energy costs, unpredictable weather, and uncertainty about federal assistance programs are creating challenges for many households.

Improvements at Fullerton Memorial Playground

New swings! New benches! New slide! New toddler space! So glad to be on hand for the ribbon-cutting celebrating improvements at Fullerton Memorial Playground.

Thank you, Senator Nick Miller and Mayor Joe Marx of Whitehall Township and to all the members of the community and partner organizations that made yesterday's opening possible!

Thanks, as well, to the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources for providing the grant funding for these improvements!
