Upcoming shredding event

This is a reminder about my upcoming FREE paper shredding event. This will be a joint event with my colleague from the State Senate, Sen. Nick Miller. It’s a great opportunity to safely dispose of your old personal papers and documents without worrying about the risk of sensitive material falling into the wrong hands.

The shredding event will take place on November 8, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Whitehall Township Municipal Campus, located at 3219 MacArthur Road, Whitehall, PA. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to my office.

I hope to see you there.

Stay cyber smart

Don’t get tricked! Below are some factoids and tips on how to avoid being cyber-scammed.

?? The Spookiest Threats Lurking in Your Inbox…

·     Phishy Emails: That 'urgent' message from your boss or fake delivery notice might
be a trick. Hover over links before you click — if it looks suspicious, don’t bite!

·     Ghostly Links: Beware of friendly-looking links that lead to frightful fake websites.
Always check the URL before entering personal info.

·     Monster Attachments: Unexpected attachments can unleash malware. If you didn’t
ask for it, don’t open it!

?? This Month’s Security Spellbook

·     Double, Double, Check and Trouble: Verify suspicious requests through another
channel.

·     Use Strong Potions (Passwords): Mix a brew of uppercase, lowercase, numbers,
and symbols, then add multi-factor authentication for extra magic!

·     Think Before You Click: If it feels eerie, it probably is.

??? Creepy Cyber Facts

·     Over 90% of data breaches start with a phishing email.

·     Cybercriminals send 3.4 billion fake emails every day, that’s a lot of cobwebs to
clear!

Honoring a guest page

Thank you to Logan Leeper for serving as a guest page for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. Logan did a great job, and his family had the opportunity to watch him from the House Gallery.

A guest page is someone who helps the representatives when they are on the floor of the House.

Guest pages need to be at least 12 years old to serve, and they must reach out to someone in a members’ office. If you would like more information, please reach out to mine.

Breast cancer awareness month

Each year in October, the Capitol Fountain in Harrisburg is illuminated in pink to honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I had the opportunity to attend the event and see the fountain turn pink.

Breast cancer death rates in the United States have dropped by 44% since 1989. That’s not a coincidence. For 40 years, Breast Cancer Awareness Month has helped raise awareness of breast cancer nationwide. It has encouraged millions to take action, leading to increased early detection and advancements in treatment that have saved more than half a million lives.

There are many great resources available to learn more about breast cancer including early detection and support.

Visiting a local girl scout troop

I had an amazing experience talking with the young ladies in Girl Scout Troop 82008 at Calypso Elementary School last night. The Scouts had ideas about legislation, so we did a model Legislature and they introduced bills, amended them, and voted Yes or No.

I hope this helps these young Scouts get their Government badges!

Thank you to Susanna O’Connor and Sheena Guthrie for the invite!
