DARBY, May 7 – State House Speaker Joanna McClinton, D-Phila./Delaware, announced that Mothers’ Home, a residential shelter for pregnant women, is receiving a state grant for $25,000.
“Healthy children begin with healthy moms,” McClinton said. “Mothers’ House has been helping vulnerable women transition into motherhood for over 30 years, offering them counseling, parenting classes, job training and other programs that will help them provide a stable and nurturing life for their child.
“This state grant will help Mothers’ Home make important upgrades to help them continue their mission.”
“Mothers’ Home couldn’t be more grateful to Speaker McClinton and her office for helping us with this $25,000 grant for much needed plumbing upgrades. Our residents, their babies and Mothers’ Home staff will benefit greatly as we operate 24/7,” Mothers’ Home executive director Brigid Risko said.
“As Delaware County's only homeless shelter for pregnant women and their newborns, we are grateful to Speaker McClinton for recognizing the impact we have on the safety and wellbeing of women and children,” Mothers’ Home board chair Barbara Bacchia said. “These funds will help us with much needed repairs to our antiquated heating and plumbing systems and allow us to continue to provide a safe, warm home for pregnant women in need of safe housing and their newborns.”
The state funds are being awarded by Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, whose mission includes investing in people and communities to build a stronger Pennsylvania.
