EMIR Healing Center FREE Upcoming Grief Support Groups

EMIR Healing Center is a non-profit organization that advocates, educates, and supports individuals, families and communities impacted by homicide and violent crimes.

FREE grief support groups are starting Feb. 11 and run through April 1.  Groups are eight weeks in length.  A brief description of each group along with the dates and times are listed below. Registration is REQUIRED.

Brother to Brother:  A male grief support group focusing on preventing violence among males in Philadelphia, ranging from ages 13-65 years. To educate men and young men on coping skills, alternatives to violence, conflict resolution and many other skills needed while growing up in underserved communities.

  • Tuesdays 6pm-7pm
  • Thursdays 6pm-7pm

Sister to Sister:  A women's only grief support group focused on the healing journey utilizing the powerful impact of sisterhood.

  • Tuesdays 6pm-7pm
  • Wednesdays 6pm-7pm

Sister WARRIORS:  A women's only grief support group focused on healing and activism.

  • Tuesdays 6:30pm-7:30pm

Partners 4 Peace: A grief support group for people who have lost a spouse, significant other, or partner to gun violence.

  • Wednesdays 6pm-7pm

 

Thin Red Heart Health Awareness Event

Join the Delaware County Health Department on Friday, Feb. 21 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Delaware County Wellness Center,125 Chester Ave, Yeadon for the Think Red heart health awareness event. Keystone First will be conducting free blood pressure screenings from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m.

Community members planning to attend must register to ensure their seat for the Think Red event by calling the DCHD Wellness Line at 484-276-2100 or email DelcoWellness@co.delaware.pa.us.

 

Heart Health Series at Parkway Central Library 

Join Penn Medicine CAREs at the Free Library of Philadelphia Parkway Central branch (1901 Vine Street, Philadelphia 19103) for a presentation on Stroke and Hypertension from experienced and caring health care providers from Penn Presbyterian.

The Philadelphia Section of the National Council of Negro Women, Inc. has opened the application period for their 2025 Scholarship.

ALL high school seniors who are residents of Philadelphia County with a 3.0 GPA or higher and leaders in their community to apply.

The PA House Fellowship Application is Open!

The Pennsylvania House of Representatives Legislative Fellowship Program is currently accepting applications for the Summer 2025 semester. Applications are due on March 1, 2025.

Qualified applicants will be:

  1. College undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or law school students.
  2. Enrolled in a Pennsylvania college oruniversity, or a Pennsylvania resident enrolled in an out-of-state institution; and
  3. Pursuing any major with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

The PA House Scholarship is Open!

High school seniors who will be attending a PA college or university in the fall have until April 15 to apply for the PA House of Representatives Scholarship.

Two scholarships are awarded each year. The award is to be used towards the cost of tuition and fees for a four-year program at a college, university, or career school in Pennsylvania. Half of each annual award will be paid in the fall semester, and half in the spring semester. Students must maintain eligibility criteria in all four years to receive ongoing awards.
