Reps. McAndrew, Mayes and Pittsburgh Councilman Mosley to celebrate completion of Verona Boulevard paving project connecting Penn Hills and the City of Pittsburgh

PENN HILLS-CITY OF PITTSBURGH BORDER, July 25 – State Reps. Joe McAndrew and La'Tasha D. Mayes, both D-Allegheny, will join Pittsburgh City Councilman Khari Mosley to hold a press conference at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 29 at the intersection of Verona Boulevard and Lincoln Avenue to highlight the completion of long-needed paving work between the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Penn Hills and Lincoln Larmar Neighborhood of the City of Pittsburgh.

Ignored for decades, the dilapidated brick portion of Verona Boulevard between Mt. Carmel Road and Lincoln Avenue has been fully reconstructed and paved with asphalt. The project wraps up after a delay earlier this year, when McAndrew intervened after noticing a city-hired contractor had stopped short of paving the section connecting Penn Hills to Pittsburgh. McAndrew halted the work on site and contacted city officials, eventually learning there had been a miscommunication. Together with Mosley, McAndrew pushed to get the project back on track and successfully completed to proper standards.

McAndrew explained that in a collaborative effort to enhance infrastructure between the communities, the City of Pittsburgh agreed to pave Verona Boulevard up to the Penn Hills line.

“This road is very important to enhancing life in this region for residents on both side of the Pittsburgh-Penn Hills line. This is an extremely well-traveled road, and I could not believe how it was generationally neglected,” McAndrew said. “I was happy to lobby on my neighbor's behalf and work closely with Mayor Ed Gainey's office, along with Councilman Mosley and my colleague Rep. Mayes to improve this infrastructure. It is a great feeling when two different governing bodies can team up to do what is right for their citizens.”

“This project is another example of our office's intergovernmental cooperative alliance with our next-door neighbor, Rep. Joe McAndrew,” Mosley said. “In a short period, we have exhibited how municipal and state governments can partner to upgrade two key corridors connecting Pittsburgh and Penn Hills. I thank Rep. McAndrew for his commitment to our partnership and look forward to continuing collaborative efforts to enhance the quality of life for the constituents we represent in the 9th council district and the 32nd legislative district, respectively.”
