$950,000 in grants awarded to community organizations within the 24th Legislative District

PITTSBURGH, Nov. 19 – Rep. La’Tasha D. Mayes, D-Allegheny, has announced $950,000 in grant funding from the Commonwealth Financing Agency will support multiple renovation projects within the 24th Legislative District.

Mayes said that the following projects in her district have been awarded funding:

  • $500,000 to the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium for improvement to the Kids Kingdom for rubber mulch on the playground, as well as upgrades to animal yards, installation of a chiller for the penguin exhibit and rehabilitation, and expansion of the alligator pool and exhibit.
  • $125,000 for The Promise Center Youth & Community Development Project for a sensory room, support for curriculum, and to purchase technology.
  • $175,000 to Eva P. Mitchell Residence for upgrades and repairs to help preserve 80 1-bedroom affordable senior housing units.
  • $150,000 to Hotel Terrace Hall for upgrades to concrete, doors and windows, outfitting facilities with state-of-the-art amenities for guest comfort.

“We are thrilled and grateful that these organizations will receive this funding for necessary projects to improve the community. Things like community centers, affordable housing projects, wildlife education, and building infrastructure are deserving of this money to better our community,” Mayes said. “I look forward to being able to help more organizations in my district secure necessary funding for projects in the future.”

The Gaming Economic Development Tourism Fund is overseen by the Redevelopment Authority of Allegheny County, as well as the state Commonwealth Financing Authority -- which provides financial assistance to organizations in Allegheny County for projects that support economic development.
