Rep. La’Tasha D. Mayes announces over $3 million in state investments for affordable housing, homelessness prevention and community development across Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, June 13 – State Rep. La'Tasha D. Mayes, D-Allegheny, announced over $3 million in state grants awarded to a range of nonprofit organizations supporting housing stability, affordability and community wellbeing in her legislative district and across Pittsburgh.

“These investments directly support the people and neighborhoods that need it most: Black and brown communities, veterans, working families and individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness,” Mayes said. “I am committed to helping secure resources that promote and expand homeownership and ensure everyone has a safe place to call home.”

Highlights of the awards include:

  • $100,000 to Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh to repair 12 homes in the Hill District, improving safety and livability for long-term residents.
  • $200,000 to the Urban Redevelopment Authority for the Down Payment and Closing Cost Assistance Program, helping families achieve homeownership.
  • $50,000 to Veterans Place of Washington Boulevard for enhanced security and affordable housing development for homeless and at-risk veterans, with an additional $100,000 for a new Recovery Support Program focused on substance use disorder.
  • $100,000 to Willissae’s Agency for Vision and Empowerment to support homeownership through the PA Housing Finance Agency initiative.
  • $100,000 to New Sun Rising to advance home affordability through energy efficiency improvements.
  • $75,000 to Jubilee Association Inc. to expand the Preventing Homelessness Program and Path to Self-Sufficiency Program.
  • $200,000 to East Liberty Development Inc. for the creation of six affordable, for-sale homes in a neighborhood experiencing growth and development.
  • $150,000 to City of Bridges CLT for the renovation of four single family homes located in moderate income census tracts in Allegheny County.
  • $200,000 to Open Hand Ministries for restoring homes and teaching best practices for home maintenance.
  • $350,000 to Oakland Planning and Development Corp. for much-needed improvements to 141 Robinson Street, a 29-unit affordable apartment complex.
  • $150,000 to the Urban Redevelopment Authority for the Home Accessibility Program for Independence to assist seniors and individuals with disabilities.
  • $200,000 to Hill Community Development Corp. for the full renovation of several buildings to provide housing for low- and very low-income households.
  • $200,000 to the Allegheny County Department of Human Services for the Landlord-Tenant Mediation Program, stabilizing housing and preventing evictions.
  • $200,000 to the same department to expand the Housing Solution Specialists Unit, supporting people in emergency housing with navigation and placement services.
  • $100,000 to Jewish Family and Community Services, in partnership with Rising Tide Partners and the Financial Empowerment Center, to place refugee families in stable, affordable housing.
  • $150,000 to NeighborWorks Western Pennsylvania for expanded homeownership counseling and education.
  • $100,000 to Catapult Greater Pittsburgh to provide low- and moderate-income new homebuyers and existing low-income homeowners with comprehensive trauma-informed financial education.
  • $200,000 to the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence for a regional homelessness prevention project supporting domestic violence programs in Westmoreland and Allegheny counties.
