Mayes takes oath of office to represent the 24th Legislative District

HARRISBURG, Jan. 5 – State Rep. La’Tasha D. Mayes took the oath of office in the state Capitol Tuesday to begin representing the 24th Legislative District.

The noon swearing-in ceremony marked the beginning of the 2023-24 legislative session of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

Mayes said she will prioritize expanded representation for marginalized communities, including Black women, femmes, girls and gender-expansive folx, along with community safety, environmental justice, voting rights, and health care and reproductive justice.

“I take great pride in being chosen as the first woman to represent our community and the first out lesbian to serve in the Pennsylvania General Assembly,” Mayes said. “Having worked in both state government in a House district office and in local government supporting marginalized communities, women and disadvantaged business enterprises, I am not only prepared to serve my community, but I am excited to begin and promise that I will do so to the best of my ability.”

Mayes said her office can help with a variety of state-related services, including home heating assistance, children’s health insurance, prescription drug and Property Tax/Rent Rebate assistance. Residents can find out more by going to www.RepLaTashaMayes.com.
