Thank you to everyone who celebrated the 2nd Anniversary of the PA Black Maternal Health Caucus at our Two Years Strong: Bridging Hope, Policy & Action Celebration in the Capitol this week! We all had a great time looking back on all that we have accomplished in the last two years, and looking forward at all we still have to do in years to come.

I want to thank my Co-Chairs Rep. Gina H. Curry and Rep. Morgan Cephas for their leadership and our shared vision, Speaker Joanna McClinton for supporting our Caucus from Day 1, all the Members of the Caucus especially those who have sponsored PA MOMNIBUS bills, all of the Black maternal health and midwifery care advocates, birth workers, mamas and birthing people and healthcare providers, our District Office and Capitol Staff who have made these two years possible, our advocacy partners, March of Dimes and the PA Midwives, and our sponsors, UPenn Medicine and the Pennsylvania Section of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) District III.

It was epic. I am grateful. Watch us work!

Don’t Forget: Make Your Plan to Vote on November 4

It’s important to make sure you have a plan for voting before every election, and voting by mail is an easy and dependable way to make your voice heard. If you haven’t put your ballot in the mail yet, it’s probably too late to do so; the safest approach is to drop it off in person at the Allegheny County Division of Elections, 542 Forbes Avenue, Downtown (enter the building on Forbes or Ross Street) before Tuesday at the 8?p.m. deadline or take it with you when you vote in person so it can be spoiled and then you can vote at the polling place.

For more information on voting by mail, visit www.vote.pa.gov/MailBallot.

Changes Likely Coming to Pennie Health Insurance
						 |

Due to changes in federal law and the non-renewal of the Affordable Care Act’s Enhanced Premium Tax Credits by Congress, health insurance costs are expected to rise significantly in 2026 for people enrolled with Pennie. Premiums are likely to increase by at least 82%, with some individuals potentially seeing their costs double or even quadruple.

If you are currently enrolled, you should be receiving communications from Pennie about these changes. In the meantime, make sure your information with Pennie is up to date, including your income. You can also begin exploring other plans to see if there are more cost-effective options for you. The 2026 open enrollment period for health insurance plans will begin on November 1, 2025.
