Next Week, August 25-31st, is Black Breastfeeding Week
|
Next week is Black Breastfeeding Week, and as Co-Chair of the Pennsylvania Black Maternal Health Caucus, my top priority is the needs of Black moms and birthing people across the commonwealth. Black moms are nine times more likely to be offered formula by hospitals than white moms. Additionally, hospitals serving larger Black populations were less likely to offer breastfeeding support following delivery.
|
I am working every day to make sure that Black moms and birthing people have the support and resources that they need and that all moms are not stigmatized when they breastfeed in public spaces. That is why I introduced House Bill 707 to require all state buildings to have a nursing parents room and House Bill 526 to add coverage for pumping in the PA Freedom to Breastfeed Act with Rep. Jenn O’Mara – both bills are part of the Pennsylvania MOMNIBUS 2.0. Learn more at pahouse.com/BMH/Legislation.
If you need help or support with breastfeeding, call my office for resources including Healthy Start and The Midwife Center.

Summer break shouldn’t mean empty plates. SUN Bucks provides $120 per eligible child on a prepaid EBT card to help families cover grocery costs when school is out. Children already on SNAP are automatically enrolled, and households not currently receiving SNAP may still qualify.
Visit dhs.pa.gov/SUNBucks to check eligibility, explore program resources, and submit your application.
Benefits for Summer 2025 will begin issuing in mid-July. Apply by Aug. 31, 2025, to make sure your children get the support they need.
