Verona Boulevard Road Paving Completion!
On July 29th, I - along with State Rep. Joe McAndrew and Councilman Khari Mosley - announced the completion of the Verona Boulevard paving project in Lincoln at the intersection of Lincoln Avenue where the 24th and 32nd Legislative Districts meet to the line where Allegheny County maintenance begins.
The disrepair of this road has plagued residents on both sides of the line for years and I am grateful for the intergovernmental cooperation between the state and city to make this happen.
This is an example of how elected officials can work together to improve the quality of life for our neighbors in our under-resourced communities. Roads, sidewalks and other infrastructure are essential for my constituents to do what they need to do each day, and I will keep bringing resources back to the 24th Legislative District.
Infertility impacts Black women at higher rates, yet our struggles often go unseen and are not talked about nearly enough. Black Infertility Awareness Week (July 28 – August 2) powered by SisterSong Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective is a time to break the silence and demand equitable access to reproductive care.
During this week, I have shared my own journey as my family and I begin the IVF process. I want Black women and anyone in this Commonwealth whose desire is to create their own families to understand what they may encounter – the good, bad and the real.
As your state representative and Co-Chair of the PA Black Maternal Health Caucus, I stand with all Pennsylvanians and families navigating infertility, and I continue to advocate for legislation and policies like my House Bill 922 – Preserving Fertility for Patients Act – and House Bill 833 with Rep. Jennifer O’Mara and Rep. Steve Malagari – Preserving Access to Reproductive Efforts Non-Traditional (PARENT) Act that address reproductive justice in our Commonwealth.
Property Tax/Rent Rebate Application Deadline Extended
You can apply for a rebate on property taxes or rent you paid in 2024. Last session, we passed landmark legislation that allowed more Pennsylvanians than ever before to qualify for a rebate. Then, we took another step forward by increasing the maximum annual income from $45,000 to $46,520.
This program is for seniors 65 or older; widows and widowers 50 or older; and people with disabilities 18 or older. For more information, to see if you qualify and to apply, contact my office at 412.665.5502 or click here. The application deadline has been extended until Dec. 31.
