Malagari announces grant totaling more than $290,000 for Whites Road Park project
HARRISBURG, Sept. 17 – State Rep. Steve Malagari announced a Commonwealth Financing Authority grant was approved today for Lansdale totaling $290,672.
The grant will be awarded to Lansdale to begin work on a streambank restoration project within Whites Road Park along a tributary of Towamencin Creek.
“Whites Road Park is a major part of the Lansdale community,” said Malagari, D-Montgomery. “Pockets of nature and recreational spaces are the heart of great neighborhoods like ours, and stabilizing our local environment is a quality use of state funds.
“It’s fantastic to be able to continue to invest in a project that will preserve this park for current and future generations.”
The grant is part of a $598,092 project to restore and stabilize the eroded streambank within the park. Sediment bars will be removed along the stream. Vegetation will be planted along the banks, and coir logs, or vegetation packed inside netting, will be installed to manage the velocity of water.
“Whites Road Park is a beautiful and integral part of our community.” Malagari said. “Among its numerous uses, it allows families a chance to explore the outdoors close to home, and it provides us with a chance to take in a concert under the stars.”
