Daley applauds state grant for City Ave District pedestrian bridge project

MERION STATION, Jan. 23 – State Rep. Mary Jo Daley said that she congratulates City Ave District for its state grant award to improve the City Avenue Bridge in Lower Merion Township.

The Commonwealth Financing Authority voted to approve $1.13 million this week to make the bridge safer for pedestrians who use it as well as for drivers underneath it.

“This state grant funding is a major win for public safety and for everyone who relies on the City Avenue Bridge each day,” said Daley, D-Montgomery. “By investing in walkability, we’re protecting students, seniors and families while strengthening a vital part of the local community. Thanks to the state realizing a wise investment here, this project will make a real, everyday difference for the people who depend on it.”

More than 75,000 people use the bridge each year to connect to SEPTA and cross City Avenue.

“This investment is about people and how they move, connect and how safe they feel doing it,” said Bryan Fenstermaker, President and CEO of City Ave District. “The City Ave Bridge is a critical link for tens of thousands of pedestrians and drivers each year and this funding allows us to make meaningful improvements that enhance safety, accessibility and quality of life for the entire community. We’re grateful to the Commonwealth and Representative Daley for recognizing the importance of this project.”
