Daley announces state funding for Montco, America250 projects

HARRISBURG, Jan. 31 – State Rep. Mary Jo Daley today announced several state grant awards for projects in Lower Merion Township and Montgomery County.

The Commonwealth Financing Authority awarded Lower Merion Township $100,000 for the Pencoyd Landing Trail project and another $100,000 to the Penn Wynne Library Association for the library’s Community Reading Garden. The CFA approved the funding under its Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program.

Additionally, America250PA granted $20,000 to The Jack Miller Center for Teaching America’s Founding Principles and History under its Semiquincentennial Grant Program.

“Our area’s penchant for developing a deep connection with history and our public amenities is second to none,” Daley said. “We are truly fortunate to have dedicated public servants and officials who recognize how important this region is to Pennsylvania and the country, and they work tirelessly to promote it. Many thanks are in order for their work bolstering Montgomery County and serving the people who call it home.”

“Thanks to a partnership among Lower Merion Township, West Laurel Hill Cemetery, and the offices, hotels and restaurants at Pencoyd Landing, we are excited to complete the trail gap between the Cynwyd Heritage Trail and the Schuylkill River Trail,” said Lower Merion Assistant Director for Building & Planning Chris Leswing. “This short but important segment will improve bike and pedestrian connectivity in Bala Cynwyd, City Avenue District, Pencoyd Landing and Manayunk by bringing recreational, cultural, historic and economic assets together within walking distance.”

“We are absolutely thrilled and honored to receive this grant from the Department of Community and Economic Development as part of the Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program awards for Penn Wynne Library’s Community Reading Garden project,” said Penn Wynne Library Head Librarian Jennifer Kuhns. “We know that so many folks will benefit from what promises to be a beautiful, sustainable, and accessible outdoor gathering space. We look forward to breaking ground on this project, which will allow us to expand and enrich all manner of exciting and popular programming at Penn Wynne Library.”

"America's 250th birthday is a time when all of us can recommit ourselves to the core principles of our country including freedom, equality, and human dignity,” said Jack Miller Center president Hans Zeiger. “The Jack Miller Center is excited to host the 2026 National Summit on Civic Education in Philadelphia to advance this important cause. We are thrilled to have the support of America250PA for the 2026 Summit and to be part of Pennsylvania's celebration of this experiment in self-government that all began right here."

America250PA is Pennsylvania’s official commission charged with planning and coordinating all of the programming, projects and events around the 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026.

Natural gas drilling fees under the Marcellus Legacy Fund supply the CFA funding for its Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program.
