Kulik receives Marcy’s Law Guardian of Victims’ Rights Award
HARRISBURG, Oct. 10 – On Monday, state Rep. Anita Kulik, D-Allegheny, was awarded the Marcy’s Law Guardian of Victims’ Rights Award.
Kulik received the award from the Center for Victims, a community based nonprofit organization for victims of all crimes in Pennsylvania.
“I’m extremely humbled to receive the Marcy’s Law Guardian of Victims’ Rights Award,” Kulik said. “The women in this organization have continued to be my inspiration as I fight to get Alina’s Law through the state legislature and to the governor’s desk.”
Kulik reintroduced Alina’s Law in March. The measure would give judges discretion as to whether a PFA defendant should wear an electronic monitoring device if the defendant poses a threat of violating the order.
The legislation was named in reference to Alina Sheykhet, 20, who was killed Oct. 8, 2017, by her ex-boyfriend, just shy of a month after Sheykhet filed a protection-from-abuse order against her former partner.
