Transit Funding Crisis in Harrisburg
|
|
|
On Monday, I and my colleagues in the House passed House Bill 1788 to safeguard Pennsylvania’s public transit systems.
It was the fifth time our chamber has approved legislation to fund mass transit statewide. The bill includes an extra $300 million in funding for critical investments in SEPTA, rural transit agencies, and millions in additional funding for infrastructure projects across all 67 counties.
On Tuesday, the Senate responded with a bill that completely fails to provide the critical funding necessary to our transit systems:
- It FORCES transit systems across the state to decide between the safety of their riders and workforce or whether they can continue to provide service.
- It INCREASES fares in rural, urban, and suburban communities every two years indefinitely – a tax increase on an already-struggling population is NOT the answer.
- It STRIPS funding from transit and diverts it to roads and bridges in rural areas.
This bill would force SEPTA to have to decide between:
- Repairing and replacing the oldest rail fleet in the country or providing services to 800,000 riders across the Southeast and Philadelphia,
- Making more service stops safer for individuals with disabilities or providing service at all.
Senate Republicans have failed SEPTA and failed the people of Delaware County and the rest of the Southeast.
This is not leadership. Fund SEPTA now!

Crozer Update and Prospect Medical Holdings Bankruptcy
|
|
|
Last week, ChristianaCare completed a $50M deal to take over five outpatient locations that they bought from Crozer after winning a bankruptcy auction in May. Christiana reopened imaging services on August 4 at the former Crozer locations in Broomall, Glen Mills, Havertown and Media.
They are working to reopen surgical, primary care and behavioral health services at these locations over the next two months.
The next bankruptcy hearing for Prospect, the California-based hedge fund that owns the Crozer Health system, is scheduled for Wednesday, August 20, at 2:30 pm. If you want to follow the bankruptcy case more closely, Prospect Medical Holdings created a website with information that includes court documents and hearing dates, including a link to watch the upcoming hearings: https://cases.omniagentsolutions.com/?clientId=3725and https://us-courts.webex.com/meet/jerniga
