While it was a very hot Fourth of July, I hope everyone was able to enjoy and celebrate with some of the festivities both in and around the city. I was amazed while walking around the city early that morning, seeing how the district shined brightly, and I’m proud of how many people came out to celebrate everything Philadelphia has to offer.
Unfortunately, I do not have any updates about the budget this week, but rest assured I am making sure our priorities are crystal clear. Hopefully, we’ll be able to pass a budget soon. We certainly don’t want to go through the pain felt in prior years, so our Caucus and the Governor are trying to hold the Senate’s feet to the fire. I hope to have better news soon.

New grant opportunity to expand trades education
|
Thanks to a new initiative from Gov. Shapiro, PennDOT and the Pennsylvania Department of Education have launched a new competitive grant program to help schools expand skilled trades education, preparing students for in-demand careers.
Through Sept. 1, eligible educational institutions can apply for grants of up to $500,000 to support training, industry certifications, and hands-on learning in fields such as welding, electrical work, surveying, and other heavy highway trades. Grants can assist in creating or expanding career pathways, all while building the skilled workforce the Commonwealth needs for the future.
If your school or educational institution may be eligible, apply by visiting the PennDOT website.
