Hill-Evans honors YouthBuild branches from York, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh for their advocacy day at the Capitol

HARRISBURG, April. 28 – State Rep. Carol Hill-Evans, D-York, held a press conference today with Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta, D-Phila., to honor the YouthBuild Pennsylvania Coalition for their Advocacy Day at the Capitol.

Focusing on expanding educational and workforce opportunities for young Pennsylvanians, YouthBuild, a non-profit organization, provides education, job training and leadership development to people between the ages of 16 and 24 who are out of school or out of work.

“All day, the students had ability to meet with lawmakers and show them firsthand the benefits of strengthening our education system and accommodating job market needs,” said Hill-Evans. “YouthBuild presents a successful model for developing the extraordinary potential of young minds and this advocacy day allows the students to make that case obvious for my fellow legislators.”

Hill-Evans also highlighted House Bill 455, legislation she introduced that would establish the Building a Better Future Grant Program within the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry to support organizations providing education and career training.

"Every day, I get to see the impact that their success has on other people," said Kenyatta. "I am so grateful to YouthBuild for the opportunities they provide for our young people."

“These young men and women are our future,” Hill-Evans said. "I’m proud to stand with them as we continue fighting for stronger educational pathways and career opportunities across the commonwealth.”

To qualify for a grant under Hill-Evans’ legislation, an organization would have to offer both GED or high school equivalency courses and hands-on skills training, as well as demonstrate that any young person who completes the program has the qualifications needed to join the workforce and build a career with real job skills
