Harris: More than $814,000 awarded in state grants for the community

PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 18 – State Rep. Jordan Harris, D-Phila., announced $814,313 has been awarded to two community projects in the 186th Legislative District.

The Commonwealth Financing Authority approved the grants today that Harris supported, including $750,000 for the Philadelphia Clef Club of the Performing Arts for renovations to its cultural facility. Specifically, the funds will upgrade the exterior façade, replace windows, expand the main lobby, and improve mechanical and electrical infrastructure.

“The Philadelphia Clef Club of the Performing Arts is a cultural institution that has nurtured generations of artists and preserved the rich musical legacy of our city,” Harris said. “This investment supports critical improvements to the Clef Club’s historic facility, ensuring it remains a vibrant space for performance, education and community engagement. As majority chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, I am proud to support funding that protects our cultural assets and strengthens Philadelphia’s creative economy.”

The remaining $64,313, announced by the Philadelphia House Delegation, was awarded to Philadelphia for a trash and recycling program to be implemented in 35 city-owned recreation centers. The funds will provide for bins of various sizes along with signage on appropriate recycling and waste procedures.

“Our city recreation centers are vital community hubs, and investing in modern recycling and waste infrastructure helps keep them clean, sustainable and welcoming for families across Philadelphia,” Harris said. “This funding will support practical, on-the-ground improvements that advance the city’s environmental goals while improving daily quality of life for residents. I am committed to making smart investments that support a cleaner, greener Philadelphia.”
