Hanbidge applauds Museum and Historical Grants coming to district

Today, state Rep. Liz Hanbidge announced that two organizations within her district have been selected to receive funding through the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission’s 2025-2026 Keystone Historic Preservation Grants.

Morgan Log House Historical Society will receive $100,000 to replace the historic German oak side lap roof on the Morgan Log House, a 1774 Germanic log home. The project will replace damaged lath and re-stabilize historic rafters, continue traditional roofing practices, preserve a structure inhabited from 1774 to 1964 on land settled in 1708 by the Morgan family, grandparents of Daniel Boone, and inspire future generations to engage in historic trades.

“I am thrilled to announce this state grant funding coming into our district to support historical projects,” Hanbidge said. “These investments will provide education for generations to come, and ensure that history stays preserved in our area.”

The following project received funding with letters of support coming from both Hanbidge and Sen. Maria Collett:

The Wissahickon Valley Historical Society will receive $8,211 to install a new HVAC system at the Frankville school, a one room school located in Blue Bell and listed in the NRHP. It is one of the last one-room schools remaining in the area and has no heating or air conditioning. HVAC is needed to protect the museum items, the interior walls, and to make the building more accessible for more days each year.

“I was proud to work alongside Rep. Hanbidge to secure funding for the Wissahickon Valley Historical Society’s preservation work at the Franklinville School. I’m grateful to the Historical Society members who are committed to shining a light on our community’s rich history – especially during the nation’s 250th year.”
