HARRISBURG, April 20 – State Rep. Liz Hanbidge, D-Montgomery, today announced the awarding of $770,000 in grant funding to the borough of North Wales to further enhance pedestrian safety and accessibility.
The grants were awarded through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Surface Transportation Block Grant program Set-Aside or Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside. Assisting the Department of Transportation in reviewing applications and determining recipients were the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, state Department of Health, and three Metropolitan and Rural Planning Organizations. Additionally, more than half the 64 projects spread out over 34 counties were funded through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
“Assuring the safety of pedestrians who utilize our roadways to go about their daily lives was one of a whole host of important initiatives that were propelled by the passage of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law,” Hanbidge said. “These grant dollars will go toward the necessary expansion and accessibility of two sections of roadway in Montgomery County, which see heavy foot traffic.”
The award will be used to install pedestrian facilities along Center Street from Walnut Street (SR 2010) to Washington Avenue and from Shearer Street to Montgomery Avenue with the underlying goal of making these sections more pedestrian-friendly.
