Transportation Updates

Dear Friends,

This week, I’d like to provide updates on several ongoing transportation issues, including the U.S. 202 Project and the status of SEPTA services. Many of you have contacted my office with questions about these topics, and I want to take this opportunity to share the latest information. Since my last update in March, my office has remained in regular communication with PennDOT, local township officials, and construction managers to monitor the project’s progress, timeline, and what residents can expect in the coming months.

U.S. 202 Section 61N

As a reminder, two sections remain in the U.S. 202 reconstruction project: Sections 61N and 61S. Section 61N, located within the 61st District, this project spans from Township Line Road to Morris Road. While this portion was originally scheduled for completion by September, it is now expected to be finished—with all lanes open to traffic—by Thanksgiving. Although some ancillary work will continue into next spring, these activities will not impact traffic flow.

In previous updates, I noted that changes in utility operations contributed to the revised project timeline. Despite these delays, Section 61N is now in the final stages of construction. Traffic pattern shifts will be necessary in the coming weeks to complete the remaining work.

The contractor has finished placing new concrete roadway pavement at the Skippack Pike intersection. Additionally, on Skippack Pike, precast box culverts have been installed, along with cast-in-place wing walls, a distribution slab, and approach slabs at the culvert on the west leg of the roadway.

Remaining work includes constructing the cast-in-place wing walls, distribution slab, and approach slabs for the culvert on the eastern side of Skippack Pike. In the coming weeks, the contractor will begin implementing traffic shifts along U.S. 202 to move vehicles away from the center of the roadway. This will allow construction to begin on the median dividers and the “porkchop” island.

These elements will be built once traffic is successfully redirected and the eastern approach slabs at Skippack Pike are completed. Following this, the final asphalt wearing course will be placed, along with new pavement markings and updated traffic signals. For a full depiction of the work being completed, please view PennDOT’s Fall 2025 update here.

SEPTA Service Cuts

On August 24, SEPTA implemented its first round of service cuts due to the Senate failing to pass one of the five bills the House sent over to adequately fund and preserve public transit in the commonwealth. As a result, SEPTA began cutting bus service, which led to the elimination of 32 bus routes, the shortening of 16 routes, and reductions on 88 additional routes.

SEPTA was scheduled to implement additional cuts, as well as fare increases, at the beginning of this past week. However, on August 29, the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas issued an injunction halting the following from taking effect: a 21.5% fare increase and a 20% cut to regional rail service. The August 24 cuts, however, will remain in effect. To see which bus routes have been impacted, please visit SEPTA’s website here.

I continue to hear from many of you about the need to fund SEPTA, and I want to reiterate that I have consistently supported funding bills that help SEPTA in the long term, having voted five times in favor of SEPTA funding.

If you—or a friend or family member—live in districts represented by Senator Frank Farry, Senator Tracy Pennycuick, or Senator Joe Picozzi, I urge you to contact them and demand that they support serious, adequate transit funding. Many of their constituents rely on SEPTA every single day, yet they have done nothing to ensure sustainable funding for the years ahead.

You can reach them here:

Senator Farry at (717) 787-5072 or (215) 638-1784,

Senator Pennycuick at (717) 787-3110 or (215) 541-2388,

Senator Picozzi at (717) 787-9608 or (215) 281-2539.

Thank you for your continued advocacy on these issues and I will keep you updated as I get further information.
