Haddock welcomes $241,076 safety grant for Avoca

HARRISBURG, Dec. 23 – State Rep. Jim Haddock announced that Avoca Borough has been selected for a $241,076 grant through the state’s Multimodal Transportation Fund.

The borough will use the grant for sidewalk, crosswalk and signage improvements on McAlpine Street.

“This investment is good news for Avoca and will allow the borough to make the street safer for pedestrians and drivers,” said Haddock, D-Luzerne/Lackawanna. “I would like to thank state Sen. Marty Flynn, PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll and Gov. Josh Shapiro for their support in making sure this project was funded in a timely manner.”

The Multimodal Transportation Fund provides grants to municipalities, councils of governments, businesses, economic development organizations, public transportation agencies, and ports and rail freight entities to improve transportation assets and enhance communities. The projects support the safety and accessibility of Pennsylvania’s infrastructure.

“My office is in regular contact with local officials and organizations as grant programs open for applications. I encourage anyone who might need assistance to contact us,” Haddock said.

Applications for the next round of MTF grants will open Jan. 5 and will be due by Feb. 13. Grant recipients are expected to be announced in summer 2026. More information about the program and funded projects is available at the PennDOT website.
