Haddock: Nearly $317,000 in funding for fire, EMS companies

HARRISBURG, Feb. 13 – Nineteen local fire and EMS companies were awarded $316,971 in state funding to support their work, announced state Rep. Jim Haddock.

“Our frontline, local heroes respond 24/7 when they are needed in times of emergency. They protect us and give their time and energy so communities can remain safe,” Haddock said. “I am proud to support and advocate on their behalf for investments like these grants so they have the tools and resources they need.”

Germania Hose Co. - $14,600.59
Greater Pittston Ambulance Association - $45,000
Greenwood Hose Co. No. 1 - $16,322.02
Hughestown Hose Co. No. 1 (fire) - $13,955.06
Hughestown Hose Co. No. 1 (EMS) - $15,000
Jenkins Township Volunteer Hose Co. - $12,018.46
Laflin Volunteer Fire Department - $13,309.52
Lawrence Hose Co. No. 1 - $13,524.70
Old Forge Hose and Engine Co. - $13,739.88
Pittston Township Ambulance Association - $15,000
Pittston Township Volunteer Fire Department - $13,955.06

The funding was awarded through the Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program, which is administered annually by the Office of State Fire Commissioner, and is available for volunteer and career fire companies, emergency medical services and rescue squads.

Eligible projects include facility upgrades, equipment, debt reduction, training and certification, education and public outreach, and recruitment and retention efforts. Additionally, fire companies were permitted to apply for construction savings accounts for the purposes of new facility construction.
