More than $3 million awarded to projects in 118th Legislative District

HUGHESTOWN, May 16 – State Rep. Jim Haddock announced today that 26 projects in the 118th Legislative District will receive state funding totaling more than $3.7 million through the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Local Share Account.

“In alignment with the CFA Local Share Account goal to invest in projects of public interests, these funds are essential to improve the local community and enhance the quality of life in the 118th Legislative District,” said Haddock, D-Luzerne/Lackawanna. “I want to thank Senator Marty Flynn and my fellow legislators from northeastern Pennsylvania for their hard work to secure this funding. These projects will improve the region for residents and attract tourists to the area.”

The following local projects were awarded grants:

  • Avoca Borough – $440,781 to purchase a new emergency rescue truck.
  • Dalton Borough – $35,410 to purchase a public works vehicle.
  • Dupont Borough – $45,825 to restore Dupont Community Park with new equipment.
  • Dupont Borough – $100,000 to construct a maintenance garage.
  • Dupont Borough – $30,000 to upgrade information technology infrastructure.
  • Dupont Borough – $15,000 to construct a veterans memorial monument.
  • Duryea Borough – $114,045 to renovate Germania Hose Co.
  • Glenburn Township – $130,000 for the Department of Public Works Building Phase I.
  • Hughestown Borough – $116,200 to build a new salt shed storage.
  • Hughestown Borough – $123,704 to purchase a backhoe.
  • Jenkins Township – $103,140 to purchase two new police vehicles.
  • Jenkins Township – $67,910 to purchase firefighter turnout gear.
  • Jenkins Township – $365,000 to mill and pave Carey Lane and Centerpointe Drive.
  • Laflin Borough – $77,103 to purchase a work truck for the Public Works Department.
  • Laflin Borough – $225,340 for stormwater improvements.
  • Laflin Borough – $17,435 to rehabilitate 58 fire hydrants.
  • Moosic Borough – $35,139 to replace the roof of the Moosic Youth Center.
  • Old Forge Borough – $121,542 for renovating the fire station.
  • Old Forge Borough – $100,000 to improve field lighting at Pagnotta Park.
  • Pittston City – $100,000 to renovate the YMCA facility.
  • Pittston City – $500,000 to construct an 80,000 square foot development project in the downtown business district.
  • Pittston Township – $295,000 to upgrade emergency services.
  • Taylor Borough – $50,000 for Department of Public Works garage upgrades.
  • West Pittston Borough – $115,000 to renovate the municipal building.
  • Wyoming Borough – $250,000 to renovate the Wyoming Area Regional Police Department’s new facility.
  • Yatesville Borough – $134,684 to renovate basketball courts.

The grants will cover approximately 14.9% of the projects’ total costs, which amounts to nearly $24.9 million.

Under the 2004 Gaming Act, the CFA may allocate funding from the Local Share Account for projects to improve residents’ quality of life in their local communities.

CFA is an independent state agency that oversees the distribution of the state’s economic stimulus packages to support public projects through the Local Share Account. Additional information on the CFA is available on the Department of Community and Economic Development’s website.
