Giral: $3.7 million in state funds awarded for housing, maternal wellness, and youth services

PHILADELPHIA, July 17 – State Rep. Jose Giral, D-Phila., announced today an investment of $3.7 million in state funds for community projects that will expand housing, residential support, maternal health resources, and youth programming for residents of Kensington, Harrowgate, and Port Richmond.
The grants awarded in Giral’s legislative district include:
- $1.5 million to the Kensington Corridor Trust to renovate 3360-70 Kensington Ave. into a mixed-use facility featuring affordable residential units, new commercial spaces, a green roof and solar technology.
- $1.25 million to Rock Ministries to renovate a vacant warehouse into The Rock Youth Factory, a new youth recreation center.
- $500,000 to the Philadelphia Housing Authority to construct a multifamily building with a community center, gym, management offices, townhomes, and a dedicated parking lot.
- $500,000 to the Oshun Family Center for the renovation of a vacant warehouse into an ADA-accessible Maternal Wellness Center.
“The grants awarded today address significant issues facing the residents of my district,” Giral said. “Safe, affordable housing; programs to help our youth grow into strong, responsible adults; and accessible health care are all top of mind for many people who live here and who may face barriers to traveling to other neighborhoods for support. These projects not only turn vacant buildings into usable space, but they also bring important resources right into the heart of our neighborhoods.”
The grants are funded through the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, a grant program for the design, acquisition, and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational, and historical improvement projects.
