Freeman welcomes $303,000 in community conservation grants

HARRISBURG, Oct. 7 – A park in Easton and wildlife preserve in Williams Township today were awarded $303,000 in state grants to further develop and expand the recreation areas, according to Rep. Robert Freeman.

“We are fortunate in Northampton County to have numerous green spaces for residents to enjoy leisure activities. Today’s announcement will improve those areas and provide additional opportunities so people can get outside and enjoy some fresh air,” Freeman said.

A $200,000 grant will allow for further development of Hackett Park in Easton. The work will include construction of a bike park and parking area, ADA access, landscaping, project sign and other related site improvements.

A $103,000 grant will be used toward the purchase of approximately 5.19 acres in Williams Township for an addition to the Mariton Wildlife Preserve protecting interior forest habitat, passive recreation and open space.

The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources approved the funding through the Community Conservation Partnerships Program. More information about C2P2 grants and funding can be found here.
