Frankel: Nearly $568,000 in state grants for community projects

Funding will support revitalization improvements and upgrades for education and security

PITTSBURGH, Nov. 18 – State Rep. Dan Frankel, D-Allegheny, announced today that five organizations in the 23rd Legislative District have been awarded a combined $567,717 in grants from the Gaming Economic Development Tourism Fund to support community revitalization, educational facilities and security improvements.

“These investments are going to have a real impact on our community,” Frankel said. “We’re talking about safer schools for our kids, vibrant commercial corridors that bring neighbors together and spaces where students can thrive. When we invest in our neighborhoods and institutions like this, everyone benefits.”

Frankel said the following projects were awarded funding:

  • $197,717 to Unger Partners LLC to purchase supplies and equipment for the 5th Avenue Revitalization project.
  • $130,000 to Bnai Emunoh Chabad Inc. for the Murray Avenue Corridor Revitalization Project, which includes acquiring and renovating a vacant former bank to make it a community asset.
  • $105,000 to Western PA School for Blind Children to upgrade security cameras. The project will purchase and install 142 security cameras, dome bubbles and covers, adapters, ceiling panels, mounting hardware, and system cabling.
  • $80,000 to The Neighborhood Academy for its New Learning Resource Center. The funding will support the buildout of the center, including foundation, flooring, masonry rebar for interior walls and structural steel and metal fabrication to support framing and finishes.
  • $55,000 to Rodef Shalom Congregation for the fourth phase of its roof replacement.

The Gaming Economic Development Tourism Fund is overseen by the Redevelopment Authority of Allegheny County and the state Commonwealth Financing Authority and provides financial assistance to entities to facilitate economic development projects in Allegheny County.
