Allegheny County lawmakers announce $7.3 million in state funding to replace lead service lines

PITTSBURGH, Oct. 15 – Today, state Reps. Dan Deasy, Aerion Abney, Dan Frankel, Emily Kinkead, Lindsay Powell and Jess Benham, all D-Allegheny, announced that the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority has approved more than $7.3 million for Pittsburgh Water (formerly the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority) to replace lead service lines in several neighborhoods in Allegheny County.

“Replacing old service lines not only updates aging infrastructure but also protects people from the serious health effects that can come from even small amounts of lead,” Deasy said. “Families should never have to question whether the water from their tap is safe.”

Pittsburgh Water was awarded a $7.2 million grant and a $111,901 low-interest loan, covering the full $7.3 million cost of the project. The investment will support efforts to eliminate lead from the drinking water system by replacing lines that will affect 1,044 residential customers in the following neighborhoods:
