Statement on the Tragic Loss of Kada Scott
Rep. Gina H. Curry October 20, 2025 | 11:06 AM
Upper Darby, Oct. 20 -- State Rep. Gina H. Curry, D-Delaware, released the following statement today after human female remains believed to be those of 23-year-old Kada Scott, a Philadelphia woman who has been missing for two weeks, were found Saturday evening:
“As communities across the greater Philadelphia region waited, watched and prayed for the safe return of a beautiful young woman, the heartbreaking news confirming that remains found were those of Kada Scott has left us all grieving.
“With deepest sadness, I extend my condolences to Kada’s family, friends and all who searched tirelessly and held onto hope that she would be found alive.
“As a mother of a Penn State graduate, this loss feels both familiar and profoundly personal. Kada was young, accomplished and full of promise; her life was just beginning, only to be tragically cut short.
“Her passing underscores the urgent need to strengthen our response when people go missing, especially young Black women and girls, whose cases too often fail to receive the same level of urgency and public attention.
“Here in Pennsylvania, House Bill 434, re-introduced in January 2025, provides for the implementation of the Ebony Alert system, a coordinated alert mechanism that notifies the community when a young Black girl or woman between the ages of 12 and 25 goes missing.
“This same bill was previously introduced during the 2023–2024 legislative session as H.B. 2461. It was discussed and passed in the Children and Youth Committee on Oct. 22, 2024, with bipartisan support on a vote of 15–10. It was later referred for a vote on the House floor, but it did not advance before the session ended. The re-introduced H.B. 434 is currently awaiting referral to committee, reflecting a shared and ongoing commitment to equity, awareness and swift action in moments of crisis.
“As we grieve Kada’s loss across the Philadelphia region, throughout the commonwealth and nationwide, this tragedy is unfortunately not the first and devastatingly won't be the last, so as we stand together around this family, we must also commit to change, to raising awareness, advancing equitable policies and protecting the safety of all women and girls in our communities. May Kada’s memory continue to guide us toward justice, compassion, and lasting action.”
With heartfelt sympathy,
State Rep. Gina H. Curry
