Hello Neighbors, Community Members and Friends,
|
|
This week, I had the honor of participating in a historic session held in Congress Hall in Philadelphia to commemorate the 250th anniversaries of both the Declaration of Independence and the Pennsylvania Constitution.
As your elected lawmaker, being in Congress Hall to celebrate our history and democracy in this way was a stark reminder of why I was called to run for office. Our nation's first leaders gathered in that room to design a government focused on individual freedom and community ideals, and to change the world as they knew it. I am grateful that today I get to work each day to change the world as I know it, too—for you and your families, for my kids, and for me, too.
If you’re interested in watching some of the Congress Hall session, you can find full video here.
Photos from the day are below! I hope you enjoy them.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. On that day, 2,977 people lost their lives, and since then, countless more—many of them first responders who were at Ground Zero—have suffered and died from the long-term health effects of the dust and smog they breathed while trying to save others.
We will never forget the strength of those who stood together in the face of this unimaginable loss.
East Lansdowne has an event planned this evening to honor both courage and loss:
East Lansdowne 9/11 Memorial Ceremony
Friday, September 11

Thank you for attending our senior fair!
|
As always, it was fantastic to host so many of our senior residents at our Senior Expo yesterday, which we co-hosted with State Rep. Heather Boyd and State Senator Tim Kearney!
The three of us care deeply about the health, wellness, and happiness of our aging neighbors, and this event was a one-stop shop for them to learn about senior support services, state resources, and more. It was also a great way to get out and meet other seniors in our community!
We have a few more community events coming up designed to keep you informed and bring us together. Check them out at the end of this email!

Learning from history so we can better serve you
|
We've talked a lot about our nation's history this year as our communities celebrated the 250th anniversary of the United States. But as we all know, some parts of the democracy we have today are different from the democracy our Founders established in 1776.
Yesterday, Speaker Joanna McClinton hosted a panel discussion at the historic Mother Bethel AME Church in Philadelphia as a companion event to our session at Congress Hall. During the panel, we heard from Speaker Emanuel "Chris" Welch of the Illinois House of Representatives, Speaker Melissa Minor-Brown of the Delaware House of Representatives, and Speaker Carl E. Heastie of the New York State Assembly.
They and our Speaker discussed the evolution of our democracy, the challenges we see in government today, and how we can better gain public trust and continue to lead with the goals of freedom, equity, and inclusion for all people.
Events like these aren’t just about history – they’re about taking what we learn from the past and using that knowledge to continue to better our future.

Legislative Lunch with PSEA

Yesterday, I joined the Delaware County PSEA Retirees for a legislative lunch, where we celebrated the recent COLA increase for retired teachers included in the state budget, and talked about education policy initiatives and the state of education funding.
