Hello Neighbors, Community Members and Friends,
|
|
After a long summer and fall, Pennsylvania finally has a 2025-26 state budget!
This Wednesday, we were called back to Harrisburg to vote on and deliver a balanced, bipartisan budget that works for you. While it isn’t perfect, I made sure the budget I supported helps you pay your bills and manage the rising costs of everyday essentials, supports our public schools and senior residents, and keeps our economy growing.
It does all this and more without increasing costs for you. There’s no tax increase for you to shoulder.
Governor Shapiro signed off on the budget Wednesday afternoon, making it official and setting us back on the road forward.
After checking out the budget details below, read on for a look at:
- Next week’s events focusing on youth homelessness
- Our successful Winter Resource Fair
- Our upcoming Winter Open House
- Events in the community
Thank you for your trust in me and my team! We’re always here for you.
In Service,
Gina H. Curry

Funding Delaware County’s Public Schools
The approved budget provides more than $100 million in additional basic education funding and a $40 million increase for special education funding across all public schools. It also designates $125 million in grant funding for school facility improvements and $25 million for the Solar for Schools program — two grant opportunities that school districts can apply for to make their buildings safer, more modern, and more energy-efficient.
The direct impact on Delco public schools?
- A $10 million increase for Upper Darby School District and
- A $10.6 million increase for the William Penn School District
Caring for our Seniors
This plan includes a $750 million increase for Medical Assistance Managed Care, ensuring our senior residents have access to medical services and supportive care.
Supporting Quality Childcare
We’re bolstering childcare centers throughout the state by investing $25 million into recruiting and retaining workers who have your child’s best interest at heart.
Putting Money Back in Your Pocket
The budget plan also includes a Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit worth 10% of your federal Earned Income Tax Credit. For most people, this means receiving between $200 and $1,000 back when you file your local taxes.

Advocating for Homeless Youth
|
Next Tuesday, Nov. 18, join us at the state Capitol or via livestream to show support for youth experiencing homelessness. We’ll be hosting two events during the day:
- A 1 p.m. news conference featuring remarks from me, Rep. Smith-Wade-El, as well as representatives from
- The School District of Lancaster, Families in Transition Team
- Valley Youth House
- The Homeless Children’s Education Fund
- A 3 p.m. Fireside Chat with panelists from the above-named organizations discussing strategies and community investments needed to address youth homelessness in greater detail. The conversation will be moderated by Sonia Pitzi, Director of Lincoln Intermediate Unit 12, New Oxford.
You can livestream the news conference here and the fireside chat here.

This Tuesday communities nationwide honored our veterans for their service and dedication to country over self. Freedom isn’t free, and without our veterans we wouldn’t live each day with the freedoms they fought to protect.
I celebrated this year by attending the 11th Annual Freedom Medal Award Dinner hosted by the Delaware County Veterans Memorial Association and the Delaware County Council, where I honored veteran and Upper Darby resident, Tien-Dat Vu. I celebrated my constituents and all of the medal winners for their service.
At the dinner, I sat and talked with Mrs. de Botton, wife of the late Claude de Botton. Together, the de Bottons built a legacy in Delaware County, and Mr. de Botton's vision honored and supported veterans with the development of the Delaware County Veterans Memorial.
If you or a veteran you know needs assistance, give our office a call at (610) 259-7016 to hear about the state services and programs we have to support our veterans here in Delaware County.

My Winter Resource Fair was a Huge Success!
|
Great weather, amazing volunteers, and happy families made our Winter Resource Fair a success! Many of you received much-needed winter items — coats, hats, gloves, scarves, and more — along with valuable state and community resources.
Thank you to our generous sponsors: Cradles to Crayons, Aetna, PECO, and Sun East Credit Union. We extend our deepest gratitude to our friends at the Lansdowne Y and Barclay Hair & Wig, who joined us with additional coats, hats, and cute winter accessories. Shout-out to the Upper Darby Fire Department and all our partner organizations for bringing much-needed services, programs, and resources to the 164th Legislative District.
We distributed over 500 coats and accessories due to the terrific effort of our volunteers!
